Collaboration

Final student welcome of Orientation with the three Orientation Coordinators, Dean of Students, and Assistant Director of New Student Programs
From collaborations with my peers in class to collaborations with my coworkers, I have improved my collaboration skills. In my Energy Resources & Technology course, my groupmates and I created a sustainable energy portfolio design and presentation for the city of Portland, Maine. This project taught me to effectively communicate in a group setting, time management, task delegations, conflict resolution, and provided me diverse perspectives on topics discussed.
This group project taught me similar expertise to what I learned as an Orientation Coordinator. I worked alongside two other Orientation Coordinators to supervise and train a group of twenty two Orientation Leaders to create an inclusive, successful, and coordinated team. The three of us also collaborated with campus partners to create workshops and information sessions for incoming students over a thousand students. Together we created training schedules, coordinated background logistics including signage, prep work, giveaways, check-in process, and campus resource sessions to create an effective Orientation process for incoming students.
These experiences strengthened my ability to work collaboratively and confidently lead others toward shared goals. I learned to be adaptable, to listen actively, and to value different perspectives. They also helped me recognize my strengths in organization, communication, and creating an inclusive team environment.
These skills will support me in future roles by allowing me to work effectively in team settings and take initiative in leadership positions. I can delegate tasks, resolve conflicts, and remain composed under pressure. No matter the career path I pursue, I am prepared to contribute positively to a team and approach challenges with a solution-focused mindset.
